More American voters believe the media have contributed more to a political divide in the U.S. than President Trump, according to a new poll.
Although a majority of voters, 56 percent, reported that Trump has done more to divide the country than unite it, 64 percent responded that the media have done more to divide the country, a Politico/Morning Consult poll found.

Additionally, more voters believe Trump has done more to unite the country than the media have. Thirty percent reported Trump has done more to unite the country, in comparison to 17 percent who report that the media have done more to unite it.
Along party lines, 28 percent of Democrats reported the media have done more to unite the U.S., in comparison to 9 percent of Republicans and 14 percent of independents.
Trump routinely condemns the “fake news” media, and accused outlets of false and “even fraudulent” reporting earlier this week.
“There is great anger in our Country caused in part by inaccurate, and even fraudulent, reporting of the news,” Trump tweeted Monday. “The Fake News Media, the true Enemy of the People, must stop the open & obvious hostility & report the news accurately & fairly. That will do much to put out the flame of Anger and Outrage and we will then be able to bring all sides together in Peace and Harmony. Fake News Must End!”
Trump is currently facing backlash for tweeting out an ad days before the midterm elections that is widely being panned as being racially charged.
The poll was conducted with a sample size of 2,543 registered voters from Oct. 25-30. The poll’s margin of error is plus-or-minus 2 percentage points.
