A North Carolina high school was put on lockdown Wednesday after a student was shot and injured on school property, according to local reports.
The injured Mount Tabor High School student is currently being treated at a local hospital, school district officials said, according to WXII-TV. The extent of the victim’s injuries was not immediately made available.
All other students and staff were reported safe, and the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said it was “actively seeking the suspect,” who has neither been described nor identified by police.
A school resource officer at the high school called emergency dispatchers after 12 p.m. local time to report someone had been shot. Police later confirmed one person was shot on school property.
“Mount Tabor High School is on lockdown,” the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said on Twitter. “There has been a shooting on school property. We and the WSPD have secured the campus and are doing everything possible to keep students safe. We are actively investigating what happened and will share confirmed information as appropriate.”
UPDATE: They are transporting all students to the Robinhood Family YMCA. Parents can report there to be reunited with their children. Reunification will take some time as students are being transported in stages.

Authorities worked to transfer all students of Mount Tabor to the Robinhood Family YMCA, which is about one mile from the school, police said. Parents were initially directed to pick up their children from the YMCA, but police since directed them to a nearby grocery store to reunite with their children.
Parents began parking their cars on the sidewalks near the school after reports of the shooting as police directed traffic away, WXII reported. The city of Winston-Salem asked parents not to go to the school, with a total enrollment of about 1,500 students.

Police said other schools in the area were also placed on lockdown “out of an abundance of caution,” clarifying there have been no other shooting incidents at other schools.
