Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., on Tuesday said the Trump administration and House Republicans should allow House Democrats to view materials related to the FBI’s investigation into potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia at an upcoming meeting at the White House.
“If House leadership is allowed to see certain documents, I think that it’s perfectly appropriate — indeed, I would recommend it — that our Democratic colleagues in the House be allowed to send representatives as well,” Kennedy said during an interview on MSNBC.
“I think that’s only fair,” he continued.
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said at Tuesday’s press briefing the gathering of Republican lawmakers and intelligence and law enforcement officials, including Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, was scheduled for Thursday.
Democrats were not invited because they had not requested the Russia probe information, which GOP lawmakers have demanded for months, she added.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., was livid over the administration’s “outrageous” omission Tuesday.
“The only thing more outrageous than this meeting occurring at all is the fact that it’s now partisan,” Schumer said.
