New Jersey middle school asks students about masturbation in homework assignment

Bunker Hill Middle School in New Jersey asked students about same-sex attraction and masturbation in an assignment obtained by Twitter account @LibsOfTikTok.

Libs of TikTok shared a photo of the assignment, with one question asking students about their masturbation habits: “My friends don’t talk about it, and I wonder if I’m the only one who masturbates. I sometimes feel ashamed or guilty when I do it. Am I normal?

“This is the first time in my life that I feel physically and sexually attracted to anyone. At times, the feelings are intense. Most of the time I fantasize about girls, but sometimes I find myself thinking about boys. Am I normal?” another question reads.

This assignment comes from the 2019 textbook Comprehensive Health Skills for Middle School by Dr. Catherine A. Sanderson and Dr. Mark Zelman that also credits multiple pedagogical developers.

“This is grooming,” Libs of TikTok tweeted at the superintendent of schools for Washington Township, Joseph Bollendorf. Other Twitter users piled on, sharing their disapproval of the assignment.
