D.C. officer charged with attempted rape
A D.C. police officer remains in jail on charges of attempted rape, abduction and unlawful use of a firearm in Prince William County last month.
Officer Kelvin Barksdale, 44, was held without bond and has been placed on leave from the Metropolitan Police Department. His next hearing is Aug. 21.
Dumfries police department officials said that June 23 they stopped the suspect trying to abduct a woman at gunpoint at the intersection of Williamstown and Old Triangle. – Scott McCabe
Good Samaritan robbed
A good Samaritan who stopped his car to check on a man lying in the roadway was attacked and robbed early Thursday morning, according to Fairfax County police. The 41-year-old victim was driving on Huntington Avenue around 2 a.m. when he went to check on the man, and was instead jumped by an armed suspect waiting nearby. The man in the roadway got up, and both suspects demanded cash. They fled in a vehicle toward Telegraph Road.
The victim was hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries after being kicked in the stomach by one of the suspects. – William C. Flook
Boy, 6, drowns at gathering
Scott Tran, 6, of Gaithersburg, drowned in a backyard in-ground swimming pool Wednesday night, Montgomery County police said. He was attending a large family gathering in the 13100 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring and was among seven or eight children in the pool at the time. A 9-year-old boy noticed Scott was at the bottom of the pool’s deep end and pulled him to the surface, but it was too late. – Freeman Klopott
Cops seek help in ID of body
D.C. police are seeking help in identifying a man whose body was found under the Taft Bridge on Tuesday.
The man was described as Asian, in his early to mid-20s, 5 feet 6, 210 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a green hooded jacket, gray T-shirt, beige shorts over an adult diaper and black sandals. – Scott McCabe
