President Trump plans to host his first re-election fundraiser at his own hotel in Washington D.C.
According to the Associated Press, the president will hold a high-dollar fundraising dinner next week at the Trump International Hotel to begin collecting campaign cash for his 2020 re-election bid.
As the Washington Examiner previously reported, the June 28 dinner will cost individual donors $35,000. For $100,000, contributors can be designated as members of the fundraising dinner’s host committee. In addition to the main re-election account established for Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, the fundraiser will set aside money for the 2020 Republican primary, presumably to ward off any intraparty challenges.
Trump became the earliest sitting president to begin his re-election campaign when on Inauguration Day he filed Federal Election Commission paperwork.
The president’s D.C. hotel, which opened just before the 2016 election, has provoked ethical and legal questions, and Democrats have criticized Trump for not removing himself enough from his businesses.
