Donald Trump said Thursday that Bernie Sanders abandoned his values to get in bed with the “devil” when he endorsed Hillary Clinton.
“What Bernie should’ve done instead of selling out to the devil, Bernie should’ve quietly — quietly let everything happen, have his protests,” Trump said at a rally in Davenport, Iowa, Thursday afternoon. “He would’ve gone home a hero.”
He said Sanders likely sold out to Clinton because he is physically exhausted, and felt significant pressure from Clinton’s surrogates.
It was the first time Trump has referred to Clinton as the devil, but Trump-supporter Dr. Ben Carson referred to her as Lucifer, alleging that she has evil intentions for the country.
Clinton will accept the party’s nomination Thursday, the final night of the Democratic convention in Philadelphia.
