MOREAU, N.Y. (AP) — State police say a 71-year-old New York landscaper has died from injuries suffered when a car hit the trailer where he and co-workers sought shelter during a storm.

Troopers say Richard Stearns of Lake Luzerne was part of a crew working Tuesday morning in the Saratoga County town of Moreau (maw-ROH’), 40 miles north of Albany.

Police say when it began to rain, the crew sought shelter inside their equipment trailer that was partially parked on the road. Troopers say a car slammed into the trailer, injuring Stearns and three other workers.

Stearns died Tuesday evening at Albany Medical Center. The others suffered minor injuries.

Troopers say the 20-year-old driver was trying to retrieve something from his console and didn’t see the trailer. He wasn’t injured but was ticketed for reckless driving.
