Pelosi predicts ‘single digit’ difference in the House

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi predicted Wednesday that there will be a “single digit difference” between the major parties in the House after the November election, even as she admitted that redistricting will be a significant obstacle to Democrats retaking the chamber.

“What I’m saying is that I think that at the end of the day, that being Election Day, there will be a single digit difference. It will be single digit, but we will make tremendous inroads in terms of the number of Democrats in the House,” she said on MSNBC.

Pelosi said that about 60 seats will probably be competitive, and that Democrats will need 30 to win the majority back from Republicans.

Pelosi said not to “get too carried away by the redistricting,” pointing to the 2006 election where the Democrats took back the House despite Texas districts favoring Republicans.

“It’s an obstacle, but it’s not insurmountable. And you don’t win if you don’t fight and we’re going to fight for every seat,” she said.

She said Republican nominee Donald Trump has been a game changer that gives the Democratic Party a shot at taking back the House. “He is a gift that keeps on giving every day that he says something,” she said.
