Bugs, bones weekend set for Neb’s Ponca State Park

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A northeast Nebraska state park will guide the public on insects and fossils.

Ponca State Park’s annual Bugs and Bones Weekend will be held June 15-16. The event will include fossil digs, educational hikes, crafts and hayrack rides.

On June 15, an archery shoot for those 8 and older will be held. The cost is $1 for six arrows.

Participants may also observe a retired paleontologist chip away at a Gillicus fossil throughout the weekend. The ancient fish fossil was discovered within the park by a child during a guided fossil dig.

On June 16, a Father’s Day Fish Fry will be held. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for ages 12 and under. Reservations are requested and can be made by contacting the park office at 402-755-2284.
