ROSENDALE, N.Y. (AP) — State police are investigating a crash on the New York State Thruway that injured five people, one critically.
Troopers say the accident occurred early Sunday evening on the southbound side of the highway in the Ulster County town of Rosendale, about 90 miles north of New York City.
A 9-year-old boy was transported by helicopter to Albany Medical Center and is listed in critical condition. The other four occupants were sent to a Poughkeepsie hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Troopers say 46-year-old Dawn Ortega of the Bronx had to take evasive action to avoid rear-ending another vehicle when traffic ahead slowed down. That caused her to lose control of her Toyota sedan, which traveled down an embankment and struck a tree.
No charges have been filed.
