‘Playing cowboy’: Felon arrested after shooting self in leg

A Florida felon who was not allowed to own a firearm will face possession charges after accidentally shooting himself in the leg.

Matthew Noffsinger Jr., 36, was arrested after being interviewed by police at a hospital where he was being treated for a gunshot wound. The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office claims Noffsinger lied and told authorities that someone had shot him while walking in the woods.

When deputies noted that the entry and exit wounds of the bullet did not match Noffsinger’s story, the felon confessed to accidentally discharging the .22 revolver while “playing cowboy.”

Noffsinger also possessed a backpack that had several credit cards and a personal ID that did not belong to him. He confessed that he had found the credit cards and that they did not belong to him. He is charged with possession of personal information and as a felon in possession of a firearm. Noffsinger is detained at the Land O’ Lakes Detention Center.
