House Democrats to hold 1,000 events to garner support for infrastructure bill

Congressional Democrats will hold over 1,000 events over the next six weeks to promote the Build Back Better infrastructure bill President Joe Biden signed into law Monday.

The 221 Democratic members of the House of Representatives are encouraged to hold five events each before the new year, said Rep. Sean Maloney, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

“There’ll be 1,000 events between now and the end of the year describing why this work that we have now completed on the infrastructure bill and will soon complete on the Build Back Better Act will give people a better country, give them more breathing room for their families, and a future they can look forward to,” Maloney said at a Tuesday press conference.

The goal is to increase support for Biden’s agenda by showing how the bill will affect specific communities. Maloney said they aren’t interested in touting a “Democrat win,” emphasizing the bill had bipartisan support.

The New York Democrat said the party will also promote the $1.85 trillion social spending bill still working its way through Congress, calling the proposals “the most important investments in our families and in our people since the New Deal.”

While Congress remains divided about the social spending proposal, the House passed the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act on Nov. 5. Thirteen Republicans crossed party lines to support the measure. Six Democrats joined most Republicans in opposing it, with the left-wing “Squad” members fulfilling a prior pledge not to support the infrastructure proposal unless it was tied to the social spending measure.

The DCCC did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for further comment.
