‘Practice what we preach’: Meghan McCain and Joy Behar feud over reports that Chris Cuomo broke quarantine

Meghan McCain and Joy Behar butted heads over reports that Chris Cuomo broke his coronavirus quarantine.

During The View on Monday, McCain was responding to the COVID-19 outbreak in the White House and questioned how many employees appear to have had professional makeup and haircuts while those services are supposed to be closed because of the virus. She tied the situation at the White House to the behavior of other “elites,” such as Cuomo, who anchors a show on CNN.

“There’s a lot of hypocrisy on this end that to go near the president, you have to actually take a COVID test … We’ve all seen and talked about the women of the White House look like they have professional hair and makeup done, as do a lot of women who are all over different networks,” McCain said. “Look, when you have — I would say this is a problem with the elites running the country, and when I say this, I mean people in the media, all politicians — not all of them, but a swath of politicians.”

“I think when you have someone like Chris Cuomo, who is the brother of Gov. Andrew Cuomo who actively has the coronavirus, and then goes out in public and gets in a tiff with his neighbor, and it ends up all over the internet. When you aren’t socially distancing and staying quarantining, that’s a problem, and I have said this for days now. We have to practice what we preach,” McCain added.

Reports that Cuomo had breached his isolation while ill surfaced when he said on SiriusXM that a confrontation with a bicyclist about breaking quarantine caused him to reflect on his career. The cyclist mentioned by Cuomo came forward and said that he had filed a police report about the anchor’s threatening demeanor. He further described Cuomo as being outside without protective equipment while he and members of his family had the virus. Cuomo has since said the man’s claims were a lie and that he was “past quarantine” when the incident took place.

Behar highlighted Cuomo’s defense, telling McCain, “I think that Chris Cuomo, when he had that argument with his neighbor, was on his property. He was home, I believe. Check it out.”

“I just know what I have read. He interacted with his neighbor enough for him to be angry enough to go all over media complaining about it, and I just think, my understanding is if you have the COVID virus, you should stay inside,” McCain responded. “Maybe I’m wrong.”

“Well, he was outside in front of his own house,” Behar replied.

The tiff was cut short by co-host Whoopi Goldberg, who sent the segment to commercial.
