SHELBY, N.Y. (AP) — Sheriff’s officials say a western New York teenager has been killed in a gun accident in his home.
The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened Friday in Shelby.
Officials say 15-year-old Jacob Stahl and another teenager were in an upstairs bedroom when Stahl was shot.
The sheriff’s office says the death resulted from careless handling of a loaded gun. The other teen’s name has not been released.
The dead teen was a 10th grader at Medina High School. School officials were notified so they could provide grief counselors for students and staff on Monday.
Shelby is about 45 miles west of Rochester.
