Italy bans jogging after biggest day-to-day increase in coronavirus deaths

Italians can no longer even go for runs as the coronavirus pandemic overwhelms the country.

Italy’s government issued a new order banning jogging and other “outdoor physical and leisure activities” after already locking down the country of 60 million people over an outbreak of the coronavirus.

The order comes from the Italian health minister and now permits physical activity only in the “vicinity of the people’s homes,” according to CNN. People are also now being restricted from moving from one residence to the other. The order extends until at least March 25.

The directive comes the same day as Italy announced that 627 more people had died from the coronavirus, the largest day-to-day increase in deaths for the country since the pandemic began. The country has been hit particularly hard, with its death toll now surpassing that of China where the virus originated late last year.

In Italy, there have been more than 47,000 cases of the coronavirus, 4,440 recoveries, and more than 4,000 deaths, according to the latest reading by the Johns Hopkins University tracker. Worldwide, there have been at least 259,314 cases of the coronavirus, about 87,000 recoveries, and more than 11,200 deaths.
