A woman was removed from her American Airlines flight because of her nut allergy since it precluded first-class fliers from receiving their in-flight snacks.
Sophie Draper was flying from Heathrow Airport in London to John F. Kennedy International Airport in December 2021, and there was no option to notify the airline of her allergy during booking, she claims.
It wasn’t until she was at her gate that agents allegedly told her they were “contractually obliged to serve hot mixed nuts in first and business class” and that it was “against company policy” to make any mention of food allergies.

and “it was against company policy” to make an announcement about any food allergies on the aircraft. I was absolutely stunned that in 2021, with the number of fatal instances from nut allergy surfers flying, that this was their heartless policy. (6/16)

As a result, the agents removed Draper and her boyfriend from the flight to ensure that the other customers received their snacks.
“I broke down in tears,” Draper tweeted Monday. “I felt totally discriminated against for a health condition I have no control over.”

Eventually, the pair booked another flight on British Airways, which was much more accommodating, according to Draper. She tagged American Airlines in her post, calling their food policies “incompatible.”
