Metrobuses are involved in crashes every day around the region. In fact, typically more than six crashes each day.
But Wednesday’s nasty wreck on the Rockville Pike just south of the Capital Beltway/Interstate 495 was unusual.
It was the first fatal vehicle wreck involving a Metrobus since September 2008, according to Metro. That crash led to a hefty lawsuit, which Metro settled for an undisclosed sum, and a negligent homicide charge against the bus operator. The case is still pending.
The latest crash killed the driver of a pickup truck after he crossed over into the path the bus. The bus driver, a 13-year veteran driver, is still recovering from her injuries, according to Metro.
