‘This is why we fight’: Casey DeSantis responds to Gavin Newsom

Florida first lady Casey DeSantis took to Twitter with a reminder seemingly directed at Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) after he revealed why he targeted her husband, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), in an Independence Day attack ad.

Casey DeSantis shared a video of a mother and her Special Olympian daughter who was able to compete last month following Florida’s threat to fine the Special Olympics $27 million if it did not drop its COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

“For those who need a reminder … this is why we fight,” Florida’s first lady tweeted. “Isabella competed in the Special Olympics because @RonDeSantisFL stood up and fought for her and all the other Special Olympians who would have been sidelined. We will never stop fighting for people like Isabella.”

‘HE DID SOMETHING THAT TIPPED ME’: NEWSOM EXPLAINS REASON BEHIND RON DESANTIS AD

Earlier this month, in an ad paid for by Newsom’s reelection campaign, the California governor encouraged Florida residents to move out west to his state, saying, “Freedom is under attack in your state.”

Newsom has since revealed that he targeted Ron DeSantis because of Florida’s pushback to the Special Olympics’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

“He did something that tipped me very directly, and that was going after the Special Olympics,” Newsom told the Sacramento Bee, speaking of the Florida governor. “That led to the consideration of doing something a little bit more expressive and that was the determination on the ad.”

In response to Newsom’s attack ad, Gov. DeSantis noted that there are reasons why people are leaving California.

“Let us be clear, California is driving people away with their terrible governance,” he said.
