President-elect Trump took full pleasure Friday in mocking political professionals who staunchly opposed his candidacy, claiming they are “gasping for air” as the days until he takes office fly by.
Speaking at a get-out-the-vote event rally in Baton Rouge for Louisiana Republican Senate candidate John Kennedy, Trump said members of the “Never Trump” movement — a bipartisan group of former and current lawmakers, military officials and political operatives who vowed never to vote for him — are on “a respirator right now.”

“They are gasping for air,” he said.
Despite taking delight in proving many of his opponents wrong, Trump has simultaneously invited a number of his former critics to meet with him at his gilded Manhattan skyscraper since last month’s election.
Most notably, the incoming Republican president has met twice with Mitt Romney, who he is considering for secretary of state. The former GOP nominee called Trump a “fake,” a “fraud” and a “con man” in a speech earlier this year, but has since has since offered a glowing review of the president-elect and his transition team.
Trump departed Louisiana Friday afternoon for Grand Rapids, Mich., where he will hold his third and final “Thank You” rally of the week before returning to New York.
