A Silver Spring man was taken into custody in a domestic violence case after a four-hour standoff with police early Thursday.
Montgomery County police said officers received a report of a domestic violence incident at a home on the 2200 block of Victor Court shortly before 1:15 a.m. Police said 34-year-old Christopher E. Gardner was at the residence in violation of a protective order issued in late May.
Court records show Gardner was ordered to vacate and stay away from the home and to not contact or abuse the woman. Officer Howard Hersh, a police spokesman, said police were called to the home Thursday because Gardner was violating the order, though the woman was not being harmed.
Police tried to contact Gardner by knocking on the door and on the phone. He refused to leave.
After talking with police for more than four hours, Gardner surrendered without incident at about 5:30 a.m.
