“Entertainment Tonight” host Nancy O’Dell has broken her silence about the 2005 sex-laden Donald Trump recording that was revealed Friday night to be directed at her.
“Politics aside, I’m saddened that these comments still exist in our society at all,” she said, according to her show’s website. “When I heard the comments yesterday, it was disappointing to hear such objectification of women. The conversation needs to change because no female, no person, should be the subject of such crass comments, whether or not cameras are rolling.
“Everyone deserves respect no matter the setting or gender. As a woman who has worked very hard to establish her career, and as a mom, I feel I must speak out with the hope that as a society we will always strive to be better.”
The Washington Post released a video Friday afternoon of Trump and then-“Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush discussing Trump’s failed attempt to woo O’Dell, which led into Trump describing his views on courting women in terms that some have criticized for sounding like sexual assault.
Both Trump and Bush have apologized for their comments, but that hasn’t stopped many prominent Trump supporters from repealing their endorsements of the Republican nominee.
Despite calls for him to drop out of the race, Trump has maintained that there is “zero chance I’ll quit.” Some have even called for his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, to be put on top of the ticket, including Republican primary contender Carly Fiorina.
