A new $5 coin will be released in 2012 to commemorate the bicentennial anniversary of the “Star-Spangled Banner” as well as Fort McHenry in Baltimore and the War of 1812. The coin will feature designs characterizing the War of 1812, especially the Battle of Baltimore that served as the muse for Francis Scott Key as he wrote the national anthem. The secretary of the Treasury will decide on the final design selections for the coin, which will be silver and gold. – Kristen Byrne
