Donald Trump thinks he has the better of Ted Cruz going into next week’s Indiana primary, and is predicting that support from Indiana University basketball coach Bobby Knight will give him the edge over Cruz’s running mate, Carly Fiorina.
“As far as Carly is concerned, look — she’s a nice woman, but she failed very miserably when she ran,” the Republican presidential front-runner told Fox News during an interview with Knight. “She went to practically nothing, and she left the race.”
“So, I don’t know why Carly would help,” he added.
“Look, if I had my choice between Carly and the coach, [I’d] take the coach every single time,” Trump said, gesturing towards Knight, who was seated to his left. The interview was taped Thursday and ran Friday morning.
Knight is widely considered a legend in the Hoosier State and endorsed Trump’s presidential bid earlier this week, ahead of Indiana’s May 3 primary. He has since joined Trump on the campaign trail at several of his rallies.
