Man steals police car
Police charged a man with driving under the influence of drugs, grand larceny, attempted malicious wounding and several other counts Sunday after he threatened police with a box cutter, stole a police car and fled. Michael Richard Weis, 41, of 4908 Quimby St., Beltsville, Md., was approached Saturday by two officers on Gum Spring Road where he was parked in his white BMW, blocking traffic in both directions, Prince William County police said. Police said they took cover beside one of their vehicles after Weis waved what appeared to be a knife at them. Weis left his car, got into a police car, ran it into another police car and fled with police in pursuit, police said. He crashed the car on Interstate 66 near exit 47B. When the officers attempted to arrest him, they discovered the weapon was a box cutter, not a knife. Police said he continued to fight police and a police K-9 until his arrest.
