In an interview with the New York Times, Harry Reid tweaks his comment that he saved us from a world-wide depression. Reid spreads the credit around, saying: “It’s little solace to [Nevada voters] for me to say, if we hadn’t worked so hard, there’d be a worldwide depression.” “We” presumably means Democrats in Washington.
In the same interview, Reid calls Nevadans “really desperate”
Reid also tells the Times that his Republican opponent Sharron Angle has “done everything she can to marginalize minorities.” Angle was criticized recently for remarking that some Hispanic students she spoke to “look a little more Asian” than Hispanic to her. Reid took heat for making a racially-charged attack on Republicans earlier this year, saying “I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican, okay. Do I need to say more?” Reid later claimed that he meant he didn’t know how anyone could be a Republican, but in fact he accused Republicans of opposing illegal immigration by Hispanics because “their skin’s a tone darker than ours.”
Asked by the Times if anything he did led to his poor standing in the polls, Reid says:
The first rule of getting out of a hole is generally said to be “stop digging.”
