PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — Peoria is poised to embark on a sister-city relationship with Jwaneng, Botswana.
The Journal Star reports (http://bit.ly/1hMuqBW) that Jwaneng Mayor Amos Jahana is in the city this week. A ceremony is planned for Friday, when Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis and Jahana are to sign an agreement to formalize the relationship.
Peoria City Manager Patrick Urich says a city council vote on the agreement is expected in June. Urich and Ardis visited Botswana last October.
The delegation from Botswana arrived in Peoria on Monday. They are expected to stay until Saturday. They’re scheduled to tour Caterpillar facilities among other locales.
