Michelle Obama announces guidelines for school meals in Alexandria

First lady Michelle Obama is announcing healthy changes to school meals Wednesday at an elementary school in Alexandria.

She will be joined in her effort to combat childhood obesity by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and celebrity chef Rachael Ray at Parklawn Elementary, where the three will outline new lunchtime guidelines.

The three will call for less sodium, more grains, and healthier side options such as fruits and vegetables. Even pizza, a lunchtime favorite, is expected to be made with healthier ingredients.

The changes apply to free and reduced-cost meals subsidized by the federal government.
