Former GOP New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman said Tuesday that the final straw that led her to call for President Trump to step down was the way he acted in Europe earlier this month.
Whitman, the former Environmental Protection Agency head under President George W. Bush and who admittedly voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential elections, called on her “fellow Republicans” in the Los Angeles Times last weekend to push for Trump to step down from office.

“Talking to him [Putin] is fine, nothing against that,” Whitman told CNN. “But to fawn over him, the way the president did, set aside our allies to throw everything into uncertainty for the people who are on our side.”
Trump was in Europe earlier this month for North Atlantic Treaty Organization meetings, and engaged in his first bilateral summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki a few days later.
