GOP senator: 2016 is now ‘Trump’s race to lose’

Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker thinks the 2016 election is Donald Trump’s now that the FBI has decided not to pursue criminal charges against Hillary Clinton.

“Look, I think it’s his race to lose. I really do,” Corker told MSNBC during an interview Thursday morning.

Corker took himself out of the race to be Trump’s running mate on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after he joined the presumptive Republican presidential nominee on the campaign trail in North Carolina.

“I was glad to be there and see the energy. Really glad to be on the plane so long and just see how they operate,” he said. Corker said of the vice presidential slot, however, that he didn’t want to audition “for a job we both know I’m not going to do.”

“I had said look, guys. I’ve already shared with you, this is not something I think I should do,” he said.

The Tennessee Republican went on to praise Trump, but suggested there needs to be “a way during this campaign to humanize him.”

“Whether they do that or not, for whatever it’s worth, I think it’s a — I really believe it’s his race to lose,” Corker repeated.

He added, “I think the momentum is there. He’s tapped the American psyche in a way that no candidate that I can remember in modern times has tapped and… he’s get a lot more momentum than what people see and believe.”
