Cop and suspect injured in shooting, incident

CHICAGO (AP) — A man was shot and injured by Chicago police after an officer was struck with a car, officials said Sunday.

The incident occurred Saturday evening around 10:15 p.m. when undercover officers driving an unmarked squad car stopped a suspect as part of a narcotics investigation, police said in a statement Sunday.

Two officers left the vehicle, but the suspect allegedly accelerated the vehicle and struck the police vehicle, knocking one officer to the ground. The suspect then tried to run but was shot several times by police, according to the statement.

The officer was reported in stable condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according the fire officials. The man shot by police was reported in critical condition at a Chicago hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Chicago Sun-Times (http://bit.ly/1s24gQg ).

The Independent Police Review Authority was investigating the shooting, according to a spokesman.
