WASHINGTON (AP) — Officials say a body has been found in the debris from a condominium building that apparently exploded, burned and collapsed in northeast Washington on the edge of Capitol Hill.

Firefighters were called to the scene late Wednesday afternoon in the 1600 block of Isherwood Street NE.

D.C. Police spokesman Officer Hugh Carew says authorities found one body inside the burned building. But they weren’t able to complete their search Wednesday because of debris in the structure.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire or explosion. At least two adjacent buildings were also damaged.
