Police, lifeguards corral suspect in LA surf

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A suspect is in Los Angeles police custody after being corralled by lifeguards during a standoff in the surf along Pacific Coast Highway.

Officials say the unidentified man had been causing a disturbance Friday morning at Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades.

Callers reported that the man was trying break into cars and that he might be under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.

When officers arrived, the man went into the surf at the foot of the rocky embankment below the highway.

After an hour, lifeguards were called in to help capture the man, cornering him against the rocky shoreline until his arrest.
