Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., will resign from the Senate on Jan. 2, a spokesman for the senator announced Wednesday.

Franken announced earlier this month he would step down from the upper chamber after facing allegations of sexual assault. Seven women accused the Democratic senator of inappropriate behavior, including groping and forcible kissing.
