Former President Richard Nixon’s White House counsel during the Watergate scandal excoriated President Trump on Sunday, saying the pressure of the presidency has revealed Trump to be a “fake leader” and a “wuss.”
“Trump’s bitching and whining and complaining is non-stop,” John Dean tweeted. “The presidency reveals its occupant: Trump’s not only incompetent he’s actually a wuss. Like most bullies he’s a coward. As with most autocrats he’s a very frightened person. He’s a fake leader, who thinks nasty is strong.”

Dean, who became a star witness against Nixon and was convicted for his own role in the scandal, has previously been critical of Trump.
In November, he said even Nixon would tell Trump “he’s going too far” amid reports that the president had asked the Justice Department to target his political enemies. The difference between Nixon and Trump, Dean said, is that Nixon was “corrupt,” while Trump is “evil.”
Trump’s is making the long nightmare of Nixon’s Watergate seem like a brief idyllic daydream. History will treat Nixon’s moral failures as relatively less troubling than Trump’s sustained and growing decadence, deviousness and self-delusive behavior. Nixon=corrupt; Trump=evil.
