The Democratic National Committee called on President Trump to release all of his tax returns following a report on an alleged persona income tax return from 2005 that was made public on Tuesday evening.
“If they can release some of the information, they can release all of the information,” DNC senior adviser Zac Petkanas said in a statement following the MSNBC report. “The only reason not to release his returns is to hide what’s in them such as financial connections with Russian oligarchs and the Kremlin.”

The spokesman added that the White House’s willingness to release information “when it suits them proves Donald Trump’s audit excuse is a sham,” though any potential audit would likely be in recent years, not pertaining a return from more than a decade ago.
Prior to the report, the White House issued a statement in an apparent attempt to set the record straight.
“You know you are desperate for ratings when you are willing to violate the law to push a story about two pages of tax returns from over a decade ago,” the statement said.
“Before being elected President, Mr. Trump was one of the most successful businessmen in the world with a responsibility to his company, his family and his employees to pay no more tax than legally required.
“That being said, Mr. Trump paid $38 million dollars even after taking into account large-scale depreciation for construction, on an income of more than $150 million dollars, as well as paying tens of millions of dollars in other taxes such as sales and excise taxes and employment taxes and this illegally published return proves just that.”
