President John F. Kennedy’s grandson Jack Schlossberg hit out at the political establishment and news media organizations over their handling of the release of files pertaining to Kennedy’s assassination in an essay imploring Americans not to allow themselves to be as easily distracted from important issues facing the country.

“The assassination storyline is driven by myth and drama, not substance, and so it is not unlike the current personal dramas and intrigues commanding our discourse daily,” Schlossberg wrote in an opinion piece published by People on Tuesday. “These types of stories do not just make the news today, they dominate it.”
