Bernie Sanders dismissed speculation Wednesday that he could join Hillary Clinton on the Democratic ticket, just one day after offering the presumptive nominee a full-throated endorsement.
“That issue has not yet been raised,” Sanders said during an appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America” of the possibility that Clinton could select him as a running mate. “I doubt that that will happen.”‘
Instead, the Vermont senator said his focus is now trained on preventing Donald Trump from assuming the presidency.
“We cannot have a man with Trump’s temperament with the nuclear codes and running this country,” Sanders said.
He noted Trump’s diverging views on the minimum wage, climate change and college affordability while highlighting the more liberal stances Clinton has adopted on each issue.
Democrats had long awaited public Sanders’ embrace of Clinton, which was seen as a crucial step toward uniting his supporters with Clinton’s just days before their convention in Philadelphia.
