Hillary Clinton has opened up a 14-point lead over Donald Trump in Virginia, according to a new Washington Post poll.

The Democratic presidential hopeful edges Trump 52-38 percent among registered Virginia voters, and maintains an 8-point lead over her Republican opponent among likely voters — 51-43 percent.

Clinton drops to a 7-point lead over Trump — 46-39 percent — among registered voters in a four-way matchup against Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein.

Virginians continue to be dissatisfied with both major party candidates, who continue to receive net-negative favorability ratings in the state. And while 52 percent of voters hold a positive view of Clinton’s running mate and their home-state senator, Tim Kaine, only 26 percent said Kaine’s inclusion on the Democratic ticket increases their likelihood of voting for Clinton.

Trump carries a 26-point lead over Clinton in Virginia’s coal country, yet the former secretary of state maintains a significant advantage in the Washington, D.C. suburbs (68-23 percent) and the capital city of Richmond (54-37 percent).

Interestingly, the rift between anti-Trump and pro-Trump Republicans runs deep in Virginia, where 54 percent of right-leaning voters said they would prefer to see someone else at the top of the GOP presidential ticket and 40 percent said they backed Trump throughout the primary contest.

The Washington Post poll of 888 registered voters in Virginia was conducted Aug. 11-14. Results contain a margin of error plus or minus 4 percentage points.
