President Trump got 30 seconds of straight applause after he told the audience of the conservative Values Voter Summit that the United States respects the American flag.
“We celebrate our heroes and we salute every American who wears the uniform,” Trump said. “We respect our great American flag.”
Trump has become enmeshed in the NFL player protests of kneeling during the national anthem. Over the weekend, he said he told Vice President Mike Pence to leave the Indianapolis Colts-San Francisco 49ers game after members of the 49ers took a knee during the anthem.
