US indexes turn lower at midday; Energy slips

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks are giving up an early gain and turning lower in midday trading.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 45 points, or 0.3 percent, to 16,967 as of noon Eastern time Monday. It was up as much as 89 points in early trading.
