New exhibits going up at Vicksburg military park

VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) — Vicksburg National Military Park is installing 53 new interpretative exhibits to enhance visitor interpretation throughout the battlefield.

The exhibits, called waysides, will be placed throughout the 16-mile tour road and remote park locations, including Vicksburg National Cemetery, Pemberton’s Headquarters, Navy Circle, Louisiana Circle, South Fort and Grant’s Canal in Louisiana.

The 1,800-acre park includes the battlefield, national cemetery and several remote locations in the city of Vicksburg and across the Mississippi River in Louisiana.

Officials say each exhibit will include the park’s story and Vicksburg’s significance to American history.
