POWER BREAKFAST: The CEO of American Airlines parent AMR Corp., Thomas Horton, and US Airways Group Inc. CEO Doug Parker met over breakfast Thursday in Washington to talk about a potential merger.

ON THE MENU: Parker wants the two airlines to combine while AMR is still in bankruptcy protection. He says it’s the only way they can grow big enough to compete with giants United and Delta.

FULL PLATE: Horton told Parker he won’t be rushed into any deals. He wants to develop a plan for AMR to exit bankruptcy as a stand-alone company but will consider mergers if they bring more value for AMR’s creditors, the company said.
