President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden are making a midweek getaway to their luxury beachside property, heading back to Delaware for the 12th time 100-plus days into his administration.
“In the evening, the president and the first lady will travel to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where they will remain until Friday,” the White House’s daily guidance email for Wednesday stated.

Aides did not immediately provide more details regarding the trip.

The Bidens traveled to their sprawling lakeside home in Wilmington last week to pay respects to the family of Norma Long, a former staffer who first worked for the president when he ran for New Castle County Council in 1970.

They also spent most of the Memorial Day long weekend in the First State, returning to Washington on Monday morning for a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery and lunch with Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff at upscale Washington brasserie Le Diplomate.
The Bidens’ trip to well-heeled Rehoboth Beach this week coincides with the first lady’s 70th birthday on Thursday.
The first couple added the ritzy Rehoboth Beach property to their real estate portfolio in 2017 for $2.7 million. They bought the six-bedroom, five-and-a-half-bathroom distinctly blue residence after signing an $8 million multibook deal. Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and a state park, it has three indoor fireplaces, an elevator, outdoor showers, and even a dog wash.

They have owned their home in the leafy Wilmington suburb of Greenville since 1996 when they purchased it for $350,000. It is now estimated to be worth about $2 million, according to real estate agents.

Joe Biden has spent much of his career playing up his working-class roots, dubbing himself “Middle-Class Joe” on the campaign trail. While in 2007 he was listed among the least wealthy senators after 36 years in the chamber, his fortunes changed following two terms as President Barack Obama’s No. 2.
He and his wife reported a federal adjusted gross income of $607,336 in their 2020 tax returns, down from $944,737 in 2019.
