President Trump tweeted out ongoing support of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh Friday, just hours after the Senate voted to open debate on his nomination as the FBI investigates allegations of sexual misconduct against him.
Trump pointed out that this will be the seventh FBI background investigation of Kavanaugh, a federal appeals court justice.
“He will someday be recognized as a truly great Justice of The United States Supreme Court!” Trump wrote.

Kavanaugh’s nomination has been disrupted by accusations from multiple women that he sexually assaulted them, all of whom have asked for the FBI to investigate their claims. Christine Blasey Ford testified about her allegation in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, saying he had groped her and tried to remove her clothes during a party while the two were teenagers, more than 30 years ago.
Kavanaugh has denied all the allegations.
The investigation, ordered by Trump at the request of the Senate Judiciary Committee, came after Judiciary Committee member Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., said he would not vote to confirm Kavanaugh without the FBI looking into the assault allegations, though he voted to move Kavanaugh’s nomination out of committee earlier Friday.
