Mexican president shows off spy camera found in National Palace

Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador said that a small camera used to spy on him was found in the National Palace.

At a daily press conference, the 65-year-old leader known as AMLO, showed off the miniature device that appeared to have a graphics card and processors attached to the tiny lens. The camera was found in a dining area of the building that is used for some high-level meetings. Cleaning staff found the device by accident, he said.

Despite the discovery of the clandestine contraption, AMLO downplayed concerns about spying and said he declined a sweep of his offices attempting to find other recording mechanisms.

“There’s no paranoia,” he told reporters Tuesday. “He who fights for justice has nothing to fear. It’s just that some have kept their bad habits and practices of spying.”

The president has brushed aside security concerns and has refused to be protected by bodyguards. He also flies commercial in an attempt to appeal to average Mexican citizens, even putting the presidential plane up for sale.
