President Trump and Melania praise inspiring ‘courage’ of the public amid pandemic

President Trump and first lady Melania Trump praised the “kindness and courage” of the public amid the pandemic in their final Christmas message.

“Through this great challenge, we have been inspired by the kindness and courage of citizens across this country,” the first lady said in a prerecorded message. “Teachers have worked extraordinarily hard to keep our children learning. Students have delivered groceries to elderly neighbors. Communities have found new ways to stay connected to one another.”

The president praised the “Christmas miracle” of a coronavirus vaccine, saying the vaccine will “save millions and millions of lives” and thanking the scientists, researchers, and manufacturers who worked “tirelessly” to produce a safe and effective vaccine in less than a year.

The Food and Drug Administration granted emergency use authorizations to both the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines and the Moderna vaccines in December. The United States has vaccinated over 1 million healthcare workers and residents of long-term care facilities in the weeks since the vaccine was granted approval.

Melania Trump has been working hard to spread Christmas cheer this season, designing the annual White House Christmas decorations and reading to patients at the Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C.
