D.C. police have made an arrest in the attack on five lesbians that officers initially did not report.
Police have arrested 19-year-old Christian Washington of Northwest D.C. on a charge of simple assault with a hate bias in the July 30 attack in Columbia Heights.
Police said Washington attacked the woman after trying to pick them up and then learning that they were gay.
The women — ages 20 to 24 — suffered bruises to their faces, head and bodies, police said. The Washington Examiner was shown a picture of one woman with a black eye. The officers apprehended one suspect, but let him go and did not report a possible hate crime as required by the city.
D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier last week told The Examiner that said she was stunned to learn of the incident and the conduct of her officers.
