PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — John Laurence is the new forest supervisor for the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest in northeast Oregon.
The longtime research scientist currently heads the Umatilla National Forest. The Baker City Herald reports he will start his new job Jan. 14.
Laurence began his U.S. Forest Service career in 2002 as a research scientist for the Pacific Northwest Research Station in Portland.
He had worked 25 years as a research scientist at Cornell University in New York and three years with the Environmental Protection Agency in Corvallis.
The 63-year-old Laurence says he has long been interested in the application of science to research management and policy.
