Democratic Senate candidate arrested at child detention center: WATCH

Zak Ringelstein, the Democratic nominee challenging Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, in the 2018 election, was arrested Friday after refusing to leave a child immigrant detainment center in Texas.

According to the Daily Caller, Ringelstein, a former public school teacher, is being held on suspicion of criminal trespassing, a misdemeanor charge bearing a potential six-month jail sentence and a fine of up to $2,000.

The arrest occurred after he showed up to the center in a pickup truck laden with children’s toys, blankets, and various personal items. After being refused entry to the facility on the grounds of protecting the children’s privacy, he began arguing with facility officials. A video of the exchange was posted to his Facebook page.

An additional post on his Facebook page referred to Ringelstein as a “political prisoner of the Trump regime.”
